4 Excuses why people don’t carry business cards with them
Last week we have been to the 2nd German Wedding meetup that was held in Cologne. Around 280 attendees have been there and it was a great inspiring evening to meet and talk to other photographers and wedding vendors. Originally these meetups were initiated by Carmen and Ingo who couldn’t be there last week so Suk-Jae and Jae-In the weddingpilots did a great job of organizing this meetup.
Conrad and I helped a little during the evening and walked around to collect the business card of each attendee for the competition of the evening. We went from group to group to ask if they wanted to win a compagnon bag, a license for Smart Albums or a ticket for the EWPPC in November and told them they just had to hand us their business card to become part of the competition. And then something happened that really surprised me: almost 50% of the people said they would love to win but they don’t have a business card.
These were the top 4 reasons why they didn’t have a card
– the were in the middle of a redesign process
– they have to do a redesign but their card now was just to ugly to show
– they ran out of cards
– they forgot them at home
And here are my thoughts about this: when you are going to a meetup with almost 300 people how are you ever going to make a lasting impression if you don’t have a business card with you? People will forget your name, your internet site and who you are the day after because you are going to talk to so many people. The only chance is to hand over a card so they can check out your work the next morning. So my advise even if you are in a redesign stage since months, create a simple card with your name and contact information to hand it to people. It is better to have a clean simple card than no card at all.
We just received our new beautiful letterpress business card from Natali and her manufacture Hochdruckgebiet. But it was a long way up to this card. Have a look at our evolution of business cards starting with the newest.
