Follow your dreams, they know the way

When I started my businessÂ I was following my dream. I had the dream of becoming a wedding photographer. The moment I went full time I thought „Wow now I made it, I am a full time wedding photographer“. That was four years ago and today I know some things that I didn’t know when I started and sometimes I wish I could tell that to myself standing there pride and sure I made it.

1. Just because you are a full time wedding photographer that doesn’t mean you don’t have to fight any more. You have to fight even more than before because now your whole income is dependent on your photography.

2. Find some friends in the industry. Those who will listen to you and those you listen to. You will need them and it is a great feeling when you can help somebody too.

3. Stop looking around at what others do. There are so many „famous and successful“ photographers out there. They put their pants on one leg at a time and all that glitters is not gold. Don’t believe everything you read.

4. Keep on learning. Never stop learning, getting inspired and moving forward. There are a lot of great photographer classes out there. Look for photographers that inspire you and see if they offer workshops.

5. „Follow your dreams, they know the way.“ – Kobe Yamada / I read this quote some weeks ago and it is so true. Everything started with a dream and till today this dream is leading me along the path. It is not always easy and sometimes the path gets quite hard to walk but never stop following your dream.

Als ich mich selbstständig gemacht habe, folgte ich meinem Traum. Ich hatte den Traum Hochzeitsfotografin zu werden. In dem Moment als ich dann Vollzeit arbeitete dachte ich:â€œ Wow, jetzt habe ich es geschafft. Ich bin hauptberufliche Hochzeitsfotografin.â€œ Das ist mittlerweile vier Jahre her und heute weiß ich einige Dinge, die ich damals noch nicht wusste. Manchmal wünschte ich mir ich hätte damals neben mir stehen können und mir diese Dinge gesagt.

1. Nur weil du Vollzeit als Fotograf arbeitest heißt das nicht, dass du nicht mehr kämpfen musst. Du musst umso härter kämpfen, denn nun hängt dein gesamtes Einkommen von dir selbst und von deiner Fotografie ab.

2. Finde Freunde in deiner Branche. Freunde die dir zuhören und Freunde denen du zuhörst. Du wirst sie brauchen und es ist ein großartiges Gefühl, wenn auch du auch jemandem helfen kannst.

3. Hör auf nur nach links und rechts zu schauen. Es gibt so viele â€žgroßartige und erfolgreicheâ€œ Hochzeitsfotografen. Die kochen aber auch nur mit Wasser und es ist auch nicht Alles Gold was glänzt. Glaub nicht Alles was du liest. Und vor allem: vergleiche nicht deine etwas schwächeren Bilder mit ihren Besten.

4. Hör niemals auf zu Lernen. Lass dich inspirieren und entwickle dich weiter. Es gibt eine Menge großartiger Workshops. Suche nach Fotografen die dich inspirieren und finde heraus, ob sie Workshops anbieten.

5. „Follow your dreams, they know the way.“ – Kobe Yamada / Ich habe dieses Zitat vor einigen Wochen gelesen und habe es immer wieder im Kopf. Alles hat mit einem Traum angefangen und auch heute noch zeigt mir dieser Traum noch immer meinen Weg. Es ist zwar nicht immer leicht und manchmal ist der Weg auch schwer zu gehen, aber hör niemals auf deinem Traum zu folgen. Und vor Allem: Denke nie du bist am Ziel, der Traum wird dich noch weit führen.
